Praise God Even In The Storms Of Life

I was driving home from work the other day. Depending on the time I get out of work it can be a bit of a drive long drive. I wasn’t in the best mood. Nothing happened in particular other than the usual intrusive thoughts the enemy likes to throw my way to throw me off my walk with God and rattle my faith. John 10:10 is true. I know you’ve heard it many times “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. Welp, the thief was working hard to steal my joy!

So I did what I knew to do best… I put on my worship music and began to pray and worship on my long drive home. I was beginning to feel so good! And that’s when I saw the clouds. It’s summertime in Florida so that’s nothing out of the ordinary. I kept praising and driving but the clouds got darker and then the rain came. A few drops at first then a full on storm.

I’ve driven in many storms, and I tend to get extremely quiet as I drive and this time was no different. As the rain pounded my car and hazards lights began to glow from the cars in front of me to alert other drivers that they are now driving as slow as possible as we all try to make it to our destinations safely; all you could hear from the inside of my car was rain.

That’s when I heard it. In the silence, just me alone in my car, or so I thought… “Why stop worshipping? Why did you stop praying?”. I answered aloud and said “Why did I stop?”. In the storms of life as well as physical storms that best time if any to pray and worship! Stopping is what we should not do! I spend so much time focusing on the storms and not God and that’s when I get my butt kicked! You don’t focus on the storm, you focus on who can get you out of the storm!

I boldly turned my music back on and continued praising God as I drove at a snail’s pace in the storm. Before I knew it the rain stopped, and the sun was shining.

I find it so interesting that a lot of my lessons from God involve natural. Either when I’m out in an actual storm or in my garden I encounter God. My lesson from that day: Praise God and continue to worship Him no matter what the situation looks like. The best part? It is impossible to hear the enemy when you’re busy worshipping. Try it next time you find yourself in one of life’s storms. You will come out of it with the victory.
